New Processors From Intel Complete Transition of Its Entire Mobile Product Line to 0.13-Micron Process Technology

Industry's Most Advanced Technology Boosts Performance and Lowers Power Consumption

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 2002-- Intel Corporation today announced seven new mobile processors built on Intel's industry leading 0.13-micron fabrication process. Intel has now driven its entire mobile processor product line to the industry's most advanced process technology. Smaller chip geometries, enabled by this advanced chip making process, result in lower power consumption and smaller size while enabling higher levels of performance.

The three new Low Voltage and Ultra Low Voltage Intel® Pentium® III processors - M and an Ultra Low Voltage mobile Intel® Celeron® processor, at speeds up to 866 MHz, offer increased performance and the world's lowest power consumption(1) for the ultra-portable mobile PC market segment. For value notebooks, Intel launched three mobile Celeron processors at speeds up to 1.20 GHz.

Systems based on the new mobile processors will be available from leading computer makers worldwide including Compaq, Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard, IBM, MEI, NEC, Sharp Electronics and Toshiba.

"Intel's mobile processor family is leading the industry in the next generation process technology conversion by being the first product line using 0.13-micron in all market segments," said Anand Chandrasekher, vice president and general manager of Intel's Mobile Platforms Group. "The mobile Pentium III processor-M family offers higher performing and lower-power processors for every mobile PC form factor from the sleekest, mini-notebooks to the most powerful new notebook designs."

Increased Capabilities for Mobile Processors

Intel's 0.13-micron fabrication process is the industry's most advanced, high-volume manufacturing technology. Intel's mobile processors built on 0.13-micron consume up to 40 percent less power, are 30 percent smaller and 20 percent faster than mobile processors built on Intel's 0.18-micron process.

The mobile Pentium III processor-M family feature architectural enhancements including support of Enhanced Intel SpeedStep(TM) technology that can automatically switch between Maximum Performance Mode and Battery Optimized Mode, providing the best balance of performance and low power consumption. The Deeper Sleep mode provides a power reduction from previous low power sleep states to help extend battery life -- reaching power levels as low as two tenths of a watt or less.
